I wonder HOW. How the Universe started with plasma and we ended up having incredible organisms that produce plenty of complex molecules.
After the Big Bang, the stars born (around 100-300 Million years) by plasma reactions of He and H, the simplest molecules around Universe. Apparently we had 100-300 Million years of silence, or who know what, literally. Plasma, the fourth state of matter is a magical phenomena that machined life. It looks like a spark in the Universe's brain. Plasma gives us the sun in our Sundays, the plants that we eat, the sand that we touch. But it’s even more, plasma is now explored for its use as a cancer treatment, food cleaning and green energy production! It’s simplicity but it’s potential is unbelievable.
One of plasma’s consequences was life, which started around 4 billion years, actually life is quite recent in Universe time terms. Life is tough and rude, microbes know that, that’s why they produce complex molecules for surviving. They are indeed very wise, they have survived until our ages in adverse environments (more than 35 Celsius without complaining). I think life has its ways. The building blocks (DNA) code for complex molecules, within a cell there is cocktail of biomolecules that help to the its survival and ultimately an organism or population fitness.
One impressive trait of bacterial cells is that their genes are grouped to participate in certain metabolic pathway, the so called biosynthetic gene clusters. These packages generate metabolites that we use as antibiotics, food preservatives, even skin care products! The mechanisms of molecules from genes and genes from molecules are yet to be discovered! I hope we can unravel the principles behind this complexity, not only from an anthropogenic view, but with an integral evolution perspective.
